Marilyn Monroe sculpture unveiled in Chicago

A 26-foot sculpture of Marilyn Monroe in her most famous pose was unveiled on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile on Friday morning.

Passers-by wasted little time positioning themselves under her billowing skirt to get a subway-grate view of Monroe in the same stance as she appeared in the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch.

The Marilyn Monroe statue will stand though spring 2012.

"I could see at once that she was terribly insecure, that despite her modeling she didn't think she was pretty. It took a lot of convincing for her to see the natural freshness and beauty she had, and how well she could be used in pictures."

~ Allan "Whitey" Snyder recalls the first time he met Marilyn, in July 1946

Marilyn Monroe a fost votata cea mai sexy vedeta de cinema din toate timpurile! Este urmata de Angelina Jolie, plasata pe locul 2 cu 13.9%, iar pe locul 3 este Sophia Loren, cu 12% din voturi.

Legendary

"She was so young and pretty, so shy and nervous on that picture, but I remember the scene where she was supposed to be sunning in the backyard of the apartment house we all lived in. When Marilyn walked on the set in her bathing suit and walked to the beach chair, the whole crew gasped, gaped and seemed to turn to stone. They just stopped work and stared; Marilyn had that electric something - and mind you, movie crews are quite used to seeing us in brief costumes. They've worked on so many musicals and beach sequences. But they just gasped and gaped at Marilyn as though they were stunned. In all my years at the studio, I'd never seen that happen before. Sure, the crew gives you the kidding wolf-whistle routine, but this was sheer shock."

~ June Haver, Marilyn's co-star in "Love Nest"
